Dua Lipa spilled the tea on the ‘SNL’ sketch, diving deep into the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
During a wild “Saturday Night Live” sketch, Dua Lipa brought up the latest developments in the ongoing “diss tracks” saga between rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Kicking off her hosting duties for the weekend, Lipa delved into the “beef” during the “Good Morning Greenville” sketch, portraying a local culture critic named Wanda Wems.
Pointing to pictures of Drake and Lamar pinned to her imaginary wall, Lipa exclaimed, “You guys, these diss tracks are getting crazier!”
While trying to explain real-life conflicts to oblivious morning show hosts played by Heidi Gardner and Mikey Day, Lipa expressed how she found a crucial “clue” in Lamar’s song “Euphoria.”
“When Kendrick describes Drake as Canadian, it’s because Drake is from Toronto,” she revealed, as if dropping a major bombshell. (Drake is indeed from Toronto.)
Dua Lipa also mentioned how in Drake’s recent track “Push Apps,” he questioned Kendrick’s masculinity by claiming he wears size seven shoes.
The sketch was inspired by recent alleged diss tracks released by the two artists, reigniting interest with lines from Lamar’s verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s track “Like Dat,” where he mentions Drake and J. Cole.
Drake and Lamar have exchanged verses on several tracks since then.
Their collaboration hasn’t always been contentious. In 2011, Lamar featured on Drake’s “Buried Alive Interlude,” and they teamed up again in 2012 for Lamar’s “Poetic Justice.” The feud dates back to 2013, when Lamar first took aim at Drake and several other rappers on Big Sean’s 2013 track “Control.”
Dua Lipa , hosting “SNL” over the weekend, managed dual responsibilities as both host and musical guest. Maya Rudolph is geared up to host this week’s episode, alongside musical guest Vampire Weekend for a musical-filled weekend.
