Why Virat Kohli Didn’t Take a Review: Sanjay Manjrekar Explains

Sanjay Manjrekar Explained Virat Kohli’s Refusal to Take Review Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar voiced his disappointment over Virat Kohli being falsely declared out and offered up an explanation as to why Kohli decided against opting for review after being declared out.

Kohli’s Unfortunate Dismissal in Chennai Test

Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his sympathy for Virat Kohli after his unfortunate dismissal during the second innings of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. Kohli had initially been given out as being leg before wicket (LBW), yet replays revealed that the ball actually touched off of one edge of his bat before striking his pads; nevertheless he chose not to use DRS due to uncertainly of where exactly contact may have made place with bat or not; had this DRS review been used instead, it could have kept his wicket intact and safe.

Kohli Chose Team Over Personal Benefit

Manjrekar took to Twitter and shared his observations, noting how Kohli made an admirable sacrifice by forgoing using review, keeping team interests first in his decision making, while showing a remarkable level of devotion as his score in this match was only 8 runs in first innings and 16 in second innings respectively. This demonstrated his selflessness. Throughout this match he only scored 8 runs total (in first innings and 16 total for two).

Manjrekar wrote on Twitter, “Felt sorry for Virat today; he clearly didn’t think he hit it and wanted to confirm with Gill if the ball had hit the stumps or not. Although Gill encouraged Kohli to seek review, Kohli left dejected instead choosing instead to save three reviews for team use.”
